The White Stripes top NME Chart

The White Stripes have topped the NME Chart tonight (September 2).

'You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told)' knocks Maximo Park's 'Girls Who Play Guitars' off the top spot.

New entries come from Babyshambles/a], who are in at Number Four with [B]'Delivery'[/B]. [a]Jack Penate enters at Number Eight with 'Second, Minute Or Hour' and Cajun Dance Party go in at Number Ten with 'Amylase'.

10. Cajun Dance Party - 'Amylase' Jarvis Cocker's heroes open Meltdown Festival

Rock legends Mot?rhead opened Jarvis Cocker's Meltdown festival last night (June 16) with an intense 90-minute set at the Royal Festival Hall.

The veteran band, led by frontman and bassist Lemmy, were introduced onstage by the former Pulp singer.

Taking the stage to cheers, Cocker said: "I can't think of a better way to start this Meltdown festival than with one of the best bands in the world, Mot?rhead!"

Backed by rows of Marshall amplifiers, the three-piece then ploughed through hits including 'Ace Of Spades' and 'Over The Top' at extreme volume.

During 'Sacrifice', Lemmy and guitarist Phil Campbell left the stage for a drum solo from Mikkey Dee, which thrilled the fanatical crowd, most of whom sported Mot?rhead T-shirts and flags.

The band's set, which saw the whole audience in the fully seated hall standing for the duration, also included a surprise acoustic set.

Meltdown continues tonight (June 17) with a set of Disney classics from Cocker, Pete Doherty, Bryan Ferry and Shane MacGowan at the Royal Festival Hall.
